Chalidon 46, Chania 731 00, Greece
The “Folklore Museum of Chania - The Cretan House” is actually here. Very nice little museum. You can see many old tools and artifacts and get an idea of how the Cretan villagers used to live. Some of the rooms feel like a room from their actual houses. I especially loved the embroidered fabrics
The Folklore Museum is above the shops on Chalidon, opposite the metropolitan cathedral. Each room contains a diorama of Cretan countryside or a domestic activity, all home made and wonderfully executed. It really is worth a visit, though note that there is no disabled access - there are some steep steps. One room is set aside to display some wonderful Naif scenes depicted in needlework. These are for sale and, whilst not cheap, they're really unusual and well executed, and the museum is worth visiting just to admire these. I couldn't quite stretch to one of these, but at least i have a photograph of one which you can see here. Enjoy!
Very Interesting place to visit to see how past Creteans farmed and lived. Amazing emboirdery here!!
If textiles are your thing pop in it is lovely. It's only€2... And just shows a bit about Cretan life
Highly recommend! One of my highlights. Made with love and you can tell, the lady working in the back on her embroidery was also very friendly and sweet, her work is amazing! Worth a visit just to see her incredible embroidery. 11/10
