Argentina in a nutshell

Argentina is a large, Spanish-speaking, South American country in the southern part of the continent.

Argentina became independent from Spain in the early 1800s. Between 1860 and 1930 a large influx of immigrants from Spain and Italy arrived, bringing European influence to the country.

Argentina would face political unrest, military interventions and economic instability for much of the 1900s, until 1983 when Democracy would finally return after a defeat in the Falklands War. In the early 2000s, Argentina would yet again face another economic crisis. The country continues to rebuild its economy, which still faces a high rate of inflation.

Why is Argentina so popular to visit?

Argentina has one of the most diverse landscapes in the world. From deserts to mountains, glaciers and waterfalls, the country has it all. The Patagonia region is the ultimate playground for adventurers, while Mendoza attracts wine enthusiasts and sommeliers from all over the world. Buenos Aires is a dream for city-goers, boasting some of the best restaurants and bars in the world. Of course, we can't mention Argentina without mentioning their famed asado meat. A visit to Argentina is not complete without it.

Things to do in Argentina

Given the diversity of the terrain, there's a lot to do. The Argentine Patagonia is home to many glaciers, but probably the most well-known and most photographed is the Perito Moreno Glacier. Mendoza is located on the western side of Argentina, near the Chilean border. The region is best known for its incredible malbec wine, and for Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America. To the north is Iguazu Falls, sitting on the border of Argentina and Brazil, it's another tourist attraction worth a visit. City folks will enjoy the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, which is home to the beautiful Casa Rosada and Teatro Colón, considered by many to be one of the best concert venues in the world.

What is the best time of year to visit Iceland?

Argentina is a year-round destination with temperatures varying greatly depending on the region. Patagonia is best to visit in the summer months, from December to February. But if it’s skiing you're after, then you should plan to visit anytime from June to October, depending on the ski resort. The majority of the country is most enjoyable in the late spring and early summer when temperatures are not yet too hot. The transition into autumn is quite spectacular as well, especially in the wine region where the vines turn golden and the grapes become perfectly ripe just in time for the harvest.
